" ....The mastermind behind Egypt's assault on the formidable Bar- Lev line."

The main object of these episodes is to provide valuable research tools for both the professional and military strategist among Arabs and Egyptians alike. The Crossing of the Suez Canal  episodes are a detailed description of one of history's most successful large scale special operations as well as insight into the manifest difficulty inherent in managing the tension between military and political objectives.

They are as succinct as a combat unit diary in their description of the planning, preparation and execution of an operation that is currently studied by military staff officers in military academies around the world. Amazingly, the Egyptians under  Chief of Staff Lt.General Sa`d al-Diyn al-Shazliy were able to pull off, against all odds, the feat of surprising the Israelis when the Israelis knew they were coming.

General Shazliy's account brings first hand penetrating insights, which have the ring of truth. These are  based on a wealth of materials that is forcing scholars and practitioners to revise standard interpretations of contemporary military Egyptian History. Hard lessons drawn from this unique experience are compelling and must not be passed over in silence nor to be lightly dismissed and forgotten.

The "Crossing of the Suez Canal" episodes are especially dedicated to the attention and scrutiny of younger Egyptian and Arab generations.  It is with great hope that they will learn well from these events, which took place a quarter of a century ago, in order to avoid their pitfalls in future struggles to come.

The episodes are supplemented with detailed footnotes, bibliographic material, official documents, war maps, aerial and satellite photographs as well as various diagrams and schematic illustrations of armaments and troop deployments designed especially for this occasion by the Graphic division of "al-Misbah",  so that a lay person can follow, with ease, the elaborate military descriptions- sets forth the salient details about the Ramadan War.

The series  is dedicated to the 1973 Ramadan War Veterans, Egyptian and Arab professionals with a special interest in Arab and Egyptian contemporary Military and Political Histories.

Commentaries and  professional opinions from the subscribed members are welcomed and will be posted at the end of each episode for reviewing and discussion.
